Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) ialah eter selulosa bukan ionik yang diperbuat daripada selulosa polimer semula jadi secara eterifikasi. Ia adalah serbuk putih yang tidak berbau, tidak berasa dan tidak toksik yang membengkak menjadi larutan koloid yang jelas atau sedikit keruh di dalam air. Ia mempunyai ciri-ciri penebalan, penyebaran, pengemulsi, membentuk filem, menyerap aktiviti permukaan, mengekalkan air, melindungi koloid dan sebagainya.
